Samia Suluhu Stadium reaches 16 per cent completion

ARUSHA: THE construction of the Samia Suluhu Stadium, set to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has reached 16 per cent completion.

Government Chief Spokesperson and Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Culture, Sports and Arts, Gerson Msigwa, confirmed the progress after inspecting the project last Sunday.

Msigwa commended the progress of the project despite the heavy rainfall season in Arusha. “I am pleased to see the project advancing smoothly despite the rains. The contractor has implemented effective measures to manage the weather challenges,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the project will stay on track, highlighting that the contractor has implemented effective drainage systems to divert rainwater from the site. “The contractor has assured us that the on-going rains will not cause any delay,” Msigwa added.

The multi-billion-dollar project, which costs a total of 286bn/-, is scheduled for completion in April 2026. Located in Olmoti Ward in Arusha, the stadium will have a seating capacity of 30,000 football fans upon completion.
