PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Ms Stella Rwehabuka as new Chief Executive Officer of the Weight and Measurement Authority (WMA).
Prior to her new appointment, Ms Rwehabuka was the director of the technical department of the WMA and as well served as the acting CEO of the authority.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Presidential Directorate of Communication, her appointment was effective from August 6, this year.
The Mandate of WMA is to provide protection to consumers in relation to legal metrological control which includes legal control of measuring instruments, metrological supervision and metrological expertise in trade, health, safety and environment.
The Weights and Measures Act ensures fair trading and penalises traders for short-weights and measures.
It enforces controls on weighing and measuring instruments used for trade, the net contents of pre-packaged goods as well as preventing unfair trading due to short- weights or measures.
