Russia offers scholarship to brainy Tanzanians
RUSSIA is offering scholarship to Tanzania students who will have opportunity to study in the best universities, which have produced great African leaders and distinguished personalities in the continent.
Addressing the media in Dar es Salaam recently, Russian Embassy Counsellor, Alexey Bondaruk, who is also the Russian Cultural Center Director, further said the programme will enable the students to acquire quality education in any field of their choices that they will come back home to use to develop the country.
He added: “Tanzanians who will get the opportunity to study in Russia will come back home to develop the country. We are not poaching the best brains from Tanzania to Russia, but simply improving the knowledge of Tanzanians so that the knowledge they acquire abroad is used to develop Tanzania.”
The Counsellor noted that Russia has friendly scholarship to Africa students, who have come back home to become great leaders and personalities the continent is recognizing as a force to reckon.
However, he added any student willing to study in Russia will first undergo one year learning Russian language to enable one learn fast enough Russian culture and hence, became at a position to become conversant with Russians’ way of life.
Shedding light on the scholarship, Projects Manager, Boniface Assenga at the Russian Cultural Center said willing students will get full tuition fee paid till one finishes studies.
However, he added, the scholarship will not cover transport (air ticket to Russia), accommodation, food and fares for commuting in the country.
Likewise, Mr Assenga pointed out that for a student to acquire the scholarship, one must have scored Division I or II in Form Six to study any degree course in Russia.
He added: “For Form IV students, one must have attended a Diploma Course and attained GPA of 3.5 and above. Those who want to study master must have completed a Bachelor degree and attained GPA of 3.5 and above. Those who want to study PhD must have completed master with GPA of 3.5 and above.
“For one to apply one must come with coloured copies of academic certificates according to the study course one wants to pursue and a traveling passport. The rest are online for one to do application.
“Again, students must come to the Russian cultural center to study Russia language for one year, because the language of communication and studies will be in Russia. Applications will start this month to 1st of November.
“Equally, Russia is a not a rigid country, but will allow students to be flexible to engage in some temporary jobs to boost one’s incomes”
On her part, Russian Cultural Center Education and Development Manager, Elena Simonova said the programme will not discriminate students on sex and limit one’s desire to further advance studies.
