Rukwa RC asks buyers to demand receipts

RUKWA: RUKWA Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Charles Makongoro Nyerere has urged citizens to demand EFD receipts whenever they buy items.

The RC said when opening the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) meeting in Sumbawanga that failure to demand receipts is undermining the government’s efforts to collect much-needed taxes.

“Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) should launch a campaign to educate and raise awareness to the public particularly the business community on the importance of issuing the EFD receipts,” said the RC.

Equally, the RC urged the TRA to seriously rely on the media in informing the public on the importance of using EFD as well as paying taxes.

He urged TRA in the region to pull up their socks by charting strategies for increasing revenue collection in efforts to increase the number of taxpayers by creating a conducive environment to do business and demonstrate fairness when estimating and collecting taxes from traders.

Initially, Acting Rukwa Regional TRA Manager, Jeremiah Maunda, told taxpayers to adhere to voluntary tax payment, advising them to utilise online submission of tax returns and ensure they get receipts on all purchased products.
