DODOMA: THE government is in the final stages for the review of the National Ageing Policy of 2003, while taking into consideration the critical role being played by elders in the country.
Such process involves integrating new issues which rose from the initial stage of passing the present policy.
The Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Ms Mwanaidi Ali Khamis said this while responding to the question by Kibaha Rural Parliamentarian Constantino Mwakamo (CCM), who wanted to know when the government will bring in the National Assembly a bill on the elderly people.
“The government recognises and values the major contribution which is being played by the country’s elderly people,” said Ms Khamis, indicating that immediately after the policy review process has been completed, the government will present in the house a bill on the elderly people.
In his supplementary question, Mr Mwakamo wanted to know the government strategy to maintain the upkeep of elderly people in government offices as they await a specific law which will advocate for their rights.
The deputy minister indicated that the government values the role the elderly people play in the country, calling upon public and private institutions to put in place a good mechanism of serving them.
