ZANZIBAR has invited tourists to visit the country, assuring that the islands remain safe and secure destination from the deadly Marburg Virus.
Union Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu on March 16, 2023 issued an alert on the outbreak of Marsburg Virus Disease on the North-West Kagera Region where some victims succumbed to the deadly virus. However, the minister recently declared that the disease had been contained.
Tourism and Heritage Minister Simai Mohamed Said noted in a statement on Monday that all appropriate efforts are taken to thoroughly monitor the situation.
He quoted the union health minister as saying recently: “I would like to inform Tanzanians and international community that there are no new cases of the virus. The virus has been contained in the two wards of Kagera Region, the two remaining contacts are being closely monitored…”
The virus outbreak had jeopardized tourism industry in the country, including Zanzibar, which relies heavily on earnings from the sector.
