RC tasks milk producers, processors to increase quality
MWANZA: MWANZA Regional Commissioner Said Mtanda has challenged milk producers and processors to upscale the quality of dairy products to sustain domestic and regional market competition.
The RC said farmers and processors should understand that production goes hand in hand with safety and quality standards to protect the final consumers.
“Dairy farmers and processors can benefit from the huge domestic and regional markets for milk products only if they upscale the quality as well as the output,” he said during the 27th National Milk Week in Mwanza, recently.
Additionally, the RC encouraged farmers to raise the output of dairy products to meet the demands of domestic and regional markets.
TBS Public Relations Officer Neema Mtemvu said milk producers and processors should take advantage of the huge East African Community (EAC) market where according to trade agreements, goods certified in one country can be traded in all countries without impediments.
“We used the opportunity of the National Milk Week to among others, inform smallscale entrepreneurs in the region that TBS provides certification services freely,” Ms Mtemvu said.

She said SMEs only need an introduction letter from the Small Industries Development (SIDO) to start the process of getting TBS’ quality mark of standards.
According to Tanzania Diary Board (TDB), this year’s event was well marked by providing a platform for stakeholders to discuss the benefits of further formalising the dairy sector for economic sustainability.
The Week sought to foster collaboration and innovation in Tanzania’s dairy industry by bringing together diverse stakeholders who seek to promote collaboration and innovation in Tanzania’s dairy industry.
