President Samia’s Special Eid al-Fitr Message to Tanzanians

TANZANIA: As Tanzania’s Muslims join their fellow believers from around the world to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, President Samia Suluhu Hassan has shared a special message for the occasion, emphasizing justice, unity, solidarity, and love.

The Head of State joined fellow Muslims on Wednesday to perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer at Mohammed VI Mosque in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.

“I wish all Tanzanians a happy Eid al-Fitr, thanking the Almighty, the Most Merciful, for the blessings of concluding the fast and worship during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

“May He continue to bless us and uphold our nation in justice, unity, peace, and solidarity, based on doing good deeds, caring for and serving others with love and professionalism, and with hearts filled with gratitude and devotion to him,” President Samia posted on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world. In the United States, Eid al-Fitr 2024 is predicted to begin around April 10 (depending on sightings of the crescent moon).

This year, the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid coincide with a solar eclipse.

According to, Eid al-Fitr commemorates the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, during which Muslims perform special prayers, visit family, engage in gift-giving, and participate in charitable acts.

The festival typically lasts for one to three days, beginning on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.
