Police’s clarifications on bribe-taking officer caught on camera

The Tanzania Police Force has clarified on the recent viral video clip circulating on various social media platforms, showing its officer taking bribes from a foreigner.

The Force’s Spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) David Misime clarified on Wednesday that the incident occurred in the Unguja North Region in the Isles five years ago.

“The police officer was charged and within three days he was found guilty and was dismissed from work as a lesson to other officers with similar behavior,” he said.

He added: “It is possible that those spreading the video did not get feedback on the actions taken against the officer purported pursuing his personal desires and reached that point which disgraced the Police Force and the nation as a whole.”

Equally, SACP Misime told reporters that the force assures Tanzanians that it will continue to take strict action against any staff with similar behaviors.
