A WOMAN named Amina Hassan (34), a resident of Mkoani Street at Kalangalala Ward in Geita Region has died after being stabbed by a sharp object in the stomach and hand.
The Acting Regional Police Commander in Geita Region, ACP Ally Kitumbu confirmed the incident recently naming the suspect in the murder as Mashaka Jeremia, who has since disappeared and efforts to arrest him are ongoing.
ACP Kitumbu said the suspect, who is also her husband, committed the crime at the midnight on August 30th, 2022 at their home place, adding that the source of their disagreement is family dispute.
“When Mr Mashaka committed the crime, their child named Deborah Mashaka (15), a Form One student at Mujumuzi Secondary School witnessed and explained all and that made Mr Mashaka to take off,” he added.
Elaborating, the cop noted that after the incident, neighbours rushed her to Geita Regional Referral Hospital and unfortunately she breathed her last on September 1st this year, around 13:00hrs pm.
In his medical report, Geita Regional Referral Hospital Medical Officer Mfaume Salum said that the deceased suffered multiple injuries, adding: “We took her to the operating room to get urgent surgical care but she couldn’t’ make it.”
In her reaction, the Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr Dorothy Gwajima said Amina’s murder was uncalled for and urged the police to conduct thorough investigations and take appropriate action.
Dr Gwajima said she contacted the deceased’s only child and assured her of the government’s support, especially her studies under the supervision of the Social Welfare Office in the area.
“It is my belief that the Police Force will look for the suspect, so that appropriate legal action would be taken, however, I urge people to visit Social Welfare Offices when they fail to understand each other in normal ways, as we have a number of them countrywide,” she pointed out.
