PM to grace 2024 Uhuru torch race launch today

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa

KILIMANJARO: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to launch the 2024 Uhuru torch race in Kilimanjaro Region today. The Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Nurdin Babu, said over the weekend that preparations for the launch have been completed.

“This launch is historic due to the fact that this year’s race coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Revolution of Zanzibar, 60 years since the race was officially launched for annual countrywide racing, as well as the 60 years of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar,” he said.

In addition, he said that this year’s race, themed ‘Conserve the Environment and Participate in Local Election for the Building of a Sustainable Nation,’ will be held when the nation commemorates 25 years since the death of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, who was the First President of Tanzania.
