SOME of Zanzibar Bureau of Standards (ZBS) and Zanzibar Food and Drugs Authority’s (ZFDA) operations might soon be merged to address duplication and unnecessary costs to traders.
Trade and Industrial Development Minister Omar Said Shabani told the House of Representative here that the government is aware of the work duplication by the regulatory institutions and plans are underway to merge their operations.
“We have the draft already; and it will come here for deliberations,” Minister Shabani said in response to a question by Wawi Representative Bakar Hamad Bakar who wanted to know the government plan to review the functions of the two regulatory bodies.
The law maker charged that ZBS and ZFDA have similar functions, which lead to double charge of similar services and unnecessarily increasing the business costs.
