NMB launches savings culture drive

DAR ES SALAAM: NMB Bank has added a new dimension to the NMB Pesa Account opening drive by introducing a 150m/- three-month reward campaign to enhance savings culture.

The ‘Weka na Ushinde’ savings promotion was launched over the weekend showcasing the lender’s recently simplest way to open a new bank account in the market. The NMB CEO, Ms Ruth Zaipuna, emphasised that the novel account opening service and the reward campaign will boost financial inclusion.

“Our 2024 goals include continuing to simplify access to banking services in the country and thus increase the inclusion of more people into the formal financial sector. “It is for that reason we have come up with the NMB Pesa Account and the Ushinde campaign,” Ms Zaipuna said.

She said strategies to deliver on that and create a more accessible banking experience particularly for the NMB Pesa Account holders include increasing the number of agents from 28,000 to over 50,000 in two years.

Apart from luring new customers and adding impetus to the NMB Pesa Account opening campaign, Ms Zaipuna said the promotional drive equally seeks to foster a savings culture.

The competition will comprise weekly draws in which 10 winners will pocket 500,000/- each, monthly raffles whose prizes will be a million shillings for each of the five winners and a fabulous grand finale. In the final draw, there will be various prizes such as 10m/- for one winner whereas another eight will scoop 3.0m/- among other awards. Eligibility for the competition requires only depositing 50,000/- in the NMB Pesa Account.

Temeke District Commissioner Sixtus Mapunda said NMB’s creativity and investment to make account opening hasslefree augurs well with the government’s financial inclusion aspiration to drastically increase the current low number of people with bank accounts in the country.
