He said despite insufficient funds, organisers remained optimistic that this year’s festival will be fantastic to the expectation of local fans and visitors from abroad. “Our budget estimates is about 300,000 US dollars (about 500m/-) but we managed to raise less, prompting us to reduce the number of days of performance from one week to three days,” he said.
At a gathering with reporters, the Director said preparing the 5th Sauti za Busara festival has been a challenge due to inadequate funds caused by the global financial crisis. The annual music festival in Zanzibar is a showcase of the best and most exciting African music.
The festival includes more than 40 musical groups, hailing from Zanzibar, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, West Africa and Europe.
