Welcome aboard Kim Poulsen

Welcome aboard Kim Poulsen

Welcome aboard Kim.  Kim went straight into action. He has already assembled the players and started training them. The team is preparing for the forthcoming 2014 World Cup Qualifiers, African Zone, match against Ivory Coast, scheduled for June 2.

The job of a coach is a very challenging one. It is good that Kim has said he is ready for the job. The Danish tactician has said that he has a philosophy that will guide the national team to prosperity’s new heights.

He has insisted and told the players that the team’s success would very much depend on discipline, commitment and winning spirit. This is how it should be as experience has shown elsewhere how indiscipline could affect a team’s performance. Remember France’s undignified 2010 World Cup exit?

Tanzania’s downhill slide in FIFA rankings presents a big challenge to the new coach who is expected to do something to check the unpalatable trend.   Judging from the coach’s initial action, one gets the impression of the kind of soccer coach he is.

A good coach takes time to develop and nurture skills by teaching, communicating, gauging development and assessing the magnitude of success.  Tanzania did not need just any coach. It needed a good coach with a clear mission and vision. Tanzania also needed a coach who will be able to make a name for this country. As Kim has said, he needs time to assess and polish Taifa Stars into a formidable outfit.

A good coach is rated on the basis of what result he is able to produce when handling a team and with the Under-20 ‘Ngorongoro Heroes’ Kim has already proved that he can do just that. We hope that the new coach will be able to handle the Stars and log good results as well. But he should be helped to build a strong foundation.

He needs talented and focused footballers. This could be done through the creation of age category competitive tournaments for clubs. This will help Kim to pick the cream of players he needs. In this endeavour, Kim is wished all the best.
