TLTC Tabora Region’s General Manager, Mr Thadeus Lyimo handed over the beds to the hospital administration at a brief ceremony also graced by the Tabora Urban Member of Parliament Aden Rage.

Speaking at the event, the Guest of Honour thanked TLTC for the contribution which would greatly improve service at the maternity ward.

Rage, who inspected the maternity ward and witnessed women sleeping in piggyback in twos and threes, said he had been highly touched by the pathetic  situation and appealed to the public to come forward to offer a helping hand.

"Twenty beds is a good beginning, but the ultimate goal is to make sure that the overcrowding situation at this hospital is a thing of the past," said Rage, who also took the opportunity to pass on get well-pleasantries to patients. He added that apart from beds, the biggest challenge facing the hospital was the need for more maternity wards.

"The hospital needs more beds, but we also have urgent need for the maternity section to be expanded so that we can have more space to put beds," he said.Mr Lyimo said it was within his company's policy initiatives to collaborate with other stakeholders including the government to support the community.

"TLTC as a good corporate citizen, partners with various stakeholders in the community to alleviate social challenges in the provision of clean and safe water, education, hence complimenting the government's efforts in improving health services as well as maternal health care inclusive," he noted.

He said that the beds and mattresses donation is part of an on-going initiative in support of health sector in Tabora as well as in other areas in the country where TLTC operates..

In her thanks-giving note, the Nurse- in-Charge of the Maternity Unit Marcelina Mpandachalo said presently the hospital handles an average of 25 to 30 deliveries daily, a figure which she described as too high in relation to facilities, hence the sharing of beds.

"We are most grateful to TLTC for this generous donation which is necessary, timely and a good example for other corporate citizens to emulate.

We appeal to other well wishers to come forward and support us, so that we can provide more adequate bed space for patients who have just delivered and allow them to recuperate in comfort," noted Marcelina.
