TLGU Honorary Secretary, Anitha Siwale said the association is planning to send a team in the bi-annual event to be held from June 5 to 10 this year at the Phakalane grounds in Gaborone, Botswana. She said they have sent support request letters to various stakeholders and sponsors which have been channeled through the National Sports Council (NSC), to facilitate the Tanzania team participation in the competition.
The amount is for four lady golfers namely Madina Iddi, Hawa Wanyeche, Angel Eaton and Captain Ayne Magombe training and trials as well as travelling expenses with two officials, who will accompany the team. Siwale said the players have started their individual training ahead of the tournament but needs support from various stakeholders for a joint training camp to sharpen their standards ahead of the All Africa Challenge Trophy.
“We have planned for at least a two-week residential training camp, but that is subject to resources. Apparently the golfers have proposed for a much longer camp together, we are looking into possibility in what we can afford,” said Siwale She was optimistic that the Tanzanian golfers, who are the East and Central Africa winners, stand a bigger chance of making history in the continental meet if only the golfers are well trained. Siwale said the amount is planned to cater for camp, training kits, return air tickets to Botswana. She called for stakeholders to offer them a helping hand.
