The cash donation was on Friday handed over to the hospital’s Medical Officer in-charge, Dr Haikaeli Uisso by the Chief Executive Officer and the Country Manager of Swissport Tanzania Limited, Mr Gaudence Temu. Swissport Tanzania Limited is a subsidiary company of Swissport International whose headquarters is in Switzerland and a provider of airport services.
The company also provides fuelling and aircraft maintenance services and it has operations at about 180 airports in more than 40 countries world-wide handling more than 650 airplanes. After receiving the donation, Dr Uisso thanked Swissport for the timely support as the hospital depended solely on fees charged on patients for treatment to meet its running costs, which was insufficient.
She said the hospital was inaugurated in 1907 at Ashira before moving to its present site at Marangu, a stone’s throw from Marangu Mtoni area. Dr Uisso said the number of the 80-bed hospital’s in-patients was not consistent, varying from 20 to 50 patients a day while 150 out-patients could access medical services on a single day.
