State to issue fee guidance for colleges

The Minister for Education and Vocational Training, Dr Shukuru Kawambwa, told reporters in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday that the guidance aims at ensuring reasonable charges by the universities in accordance to the courses offered. He said the current system where each university decides its own charges arrangement is not much effective due to the fact that it allows improper and unfair expenses to students who wish to join various universities.

"We had formed a team of experts, some from abroad, who are currently in the final stages of their evaluation report on the fees charged by higher learning institutions and will be presented to the government next month," he said.

According to Dr Kawambwa, the initial evaluation draft was presented by the team to the ministry last month where some comments were made before the team submits its final draft.

The minister further noted that the government had banned a system of fees payment in terms of dollars in all higher learning institutions and only foreign students would use that system.
