"Mr Mechama died on Sunday morning around 7am in Dar es Salaam. And it is only about three weeks after he returned from India," the Serengeti District Council Acting Chairman, Mr Jumanne Kwiro, confirmed Sunday morning.
Mr Mechama (48) has been ill for several months and went to India for treatment two times, according to Mr Kwiro.He went to India in November, last year and went back in May, this year," Mr Kwiro added.
The death was also confirmed by the Serengeti District Council Executive Director (DED), Mr Kimulika Galikunga."We have started arranging on how to bring his body back for burial, but we are going to miss his good leadership, among other things," DED Galikunga said.
Mr Mechama has served as a councillor on the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) ticket for over 12 years. He had in the past also served as the Mara Regional CCM youth wing Chairman.The civic leader is expected to be laid to rest at his home village of Bwitengi early this week, according to Serengeti officials.
