Police seize 540m/- heroin

The Head of the Anti-Drugs unit, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP), Mr Godfrey Nzowa, told the ‘Daily News’ that police apprehended the suspect, Kwaku Safo (41) while heading to aboard Kenya Airways flight to return to Ghana.“We arrested him at around 4:00 am at the JNIA.

The suspect who holds a Ghanaian passport number H 2289855,had hidden the consignment of drugs in his two suitcases,” said the Anti-Drugs Unit Chief.He said the preliminary investigations indicated that Safo landed in the country on the Kenya Airways flight on April 18 and that he had booked a room in Lorrate Hotel at Buguruni Malapa area in the city.

Mr Nzowa said the police were tracing the suspect since  his arrival following the tip off from the good citizens, saying Kwaku filled immigration forms as a tourist from Accra in Ghana.“The suspect will be taken to court after completion of investigations on the matter,” he said.Safo faces life imprisonment or fine of three times of the value of the seized drugs, according to the Drugs and Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Drugs Act 16.

Meanwhile, two foreigners,a Nigerian and Guinea Bissau citizen charged in possession of 3 kilogramme of cocaine worth 128.5m/- will appear before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court today.The two suspects who were identified as Joseph Chukwuema Nwabunwanne (47) from Nigeria and Alberto Mendes (49) from Guinea Bissau were arrested at the JNIA in Dar es Salaam last Sunday.

“We have completed the investigations on the matter. The suspects will appear before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (today),” Mr Nzowa told the ‘Daily News’ on Sunday.
