Ngorongoro Heroes can still turn the tables

It is true that our boys face a monumental task to turn around the score away in Nigeria in a week’s time. They would need to score at least two clear goals against the reigning champions to have any chance of progressing into the third round.

The Heroes’ performance was not impressive last weekend and may be the arrival of new Dane coach Jakob Michelsen contributed to the team’s dismal show due to tactical changes. Some fans might question the competence of the team's technical crew but again it is logical that the new coach has come up with his new philosophy that players are still struggling to adopt.

TFF should have tactically let former coach Kim Poulsen to continue being in charge of the team at least until after the game against Nigeria, as players were still used to his system of play.

However, all is not lost for Ngorongoro Heroes, regardless of what happened in the first leg, second round qualifier clash. In fact, the Heroes can’t be fully judged by the home defeat. Our team still has an equal chance of stunning the West Africans at their own backyard.

It is, however, a fact that Heroes need nothing but thorough preparations. To ensure their passage, the team would have to really tick and forget about the past. Players should be reminded that good results don’t come on some silver platter. They need to put up a spirited fight to post good result away.

Heroes need to play with determination and patriotism as they did during the 2010 campaign.  They should not be afraid by West Africans’ tag as big football nation. The Heroes should remember that they won against reputed nations in the past; so why not Nigeria? We can assure the players and their coaches of our full support and backing throughout the contest.

We wish Ngorongoro Heroes the best of luck in the competition. Despite what happened in Dar, the team could still go places.
