Newspaper reports on ministers irk Kikwete

The report, under the headline “JK alinda Mawaziri” (JK defends ministers), claimed that the prime minister wants all the ministers who face various allegations “to quit in the quest for greater responsibility in the government.”

However, according to the reports, President Kikwete “has instead insisted that the ministers concerned should be left to continue with their posts as the issue was a blowing wind that will soon come to pass.” The State House Directorate of Communication stated last night that the reports are “not true much as they are a mere fabrication and gross misrepresentation of facts.”

The statement noted that President Kikwete, who was on an official tour of Brazil, has never met nor held any talks with the prime minister. Mr Kikwete returned back home on Saturday. “The president is awaiting an official report from the Parliament in Dodoma,” the directorate said.

According to the statement, the president has called on the people to ignore the misleading reports. It added that the president has advised the media to adhere to ethics and defend both their own integrity, that of the institutions they are working for and the profession itself.
