Mob torches houses of village leaders

Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC) Philip Kalangi said the problem started when Muleba District donated 61 tons of relief maize to Nyakabango for distribution to hungry people on May 28, this year.The two leaders distributed the food to  Rwenkara, Nyamagojo  and Nyakabango residents, after which they informed the population that the stock had run out.

However, the beneficiaries became suspicious and decided to conduct searches, which resulted in finding 12 bags of maize in the house of the Mr Manana and nine more bags at the house of Mr Sabinian.

This infuriated them and on the night of June 20, this year a group of irate people assaulted the two leaders, torched their houses, accusing them of theft of relief maize.RPC Kalangi said both Mr Manana and Mr Sabinian were subsequently arrested to “help the police with their investigations.”
