Kikwete mourns Mwakanjuki

According to a statement issued by Directorate of Presidential Communications the late army general during his lifetime had garnered a number of political positions in Zanzibar including ministerial posts and used to be a Member of the House of Representatives.

“Please receive my sincere condolences after the passing of our elder, a great leader and a strong revolutionary leader. His passing has left a huge gap among us as he was our mentor who has been frank and open, his love and his humor was also comfort for us during both good and difficult periods,” President Kikwete said.

President Kikwete said that Brigadier General Mwakanjuki will be remembered for his humour and good advice and asked Dr Shein to extend his condolences to his family, the people of Zanzibar and officials who worked with him in different departments of the government, army and the House of Representatives.

The late Mwakanjuki began his political career before the revolution of Zanzibar on January 12, 1964 beginning in the Afro Shiraz Party (ASP) and later the ruling party CCM. “We must thank Almighty God for the contribution the deceased has given us during his lifetime and we will pray that he rests in eternal peace, Amen,” the president said.

He prayed for the family and asked them to be patient during these trying times.
