President Ali Mohamed Shein led a government delegation to pay their respect to the late former leader and soldier- Brigadier General with the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF). Zanzibar speaker Mr Pandu Ameir Kificho and retired president Mr Amani Abeid Karume were among leaders at the funeral.

Several Zanzibar and union ministers, politicians and members of the defence and security units paid him last respect at old chamber of the Zanzibar House of representatives, Kikwajuni in the Zanzibar stone town.Mwakanjuki died last Thursday at Lugalo Military Hospital, Dar es Salaam while undergoing treatment. He developed serious health complications since 2007 following a road accident, cutting him off from active political activities.

The late Mwakanjuki who was one of the players in the 1964 Zanzibar revolution and follower of ASP and CCM parties at different period of time has been out of active politics.After retiring from Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) , Mwakanjuki was appointed member of the House and served in Zanzibar government including: Minister for agriculture, good governance, communications and regional administration.
