FITCO Wanderers maintain winning run

The winners, boasting of an array of uncompromising batsmen in their fold, never hesitated to make short work of Telugu Vaani in the Twenty-20 formatted game to consequently continue staying at the top spot in the group’s standing. Wanderers started to bat in the match and amassed 239 runs for six wickets in the allotted 20 overs, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for the massive total.

Nick Jr Kunster (104 runs) had the most impressive day with the bat for Wanderers as the muscular batsman kept crashing balls mercilessly to record his first century in this season. Other batsmen that contributed substantially to the total score include Mike Becknor (42 runs) and Jo Ewen (33 runs).

On reply, Telugu Vaani hardly had the muscle to chase the extremely challenging target set by their opponents and the former, eventually, were all out after paltry 60 runs with one over to go in their innings. FITCO Wanderers’ wicket takers were Ian Coulquhon (2-1), Russel Hastings (2-5) and Clint Schipper (2-9) and the trio’s efforts played crucial role in limiting Telugu Vaani to the lowest score possible.

In a group A match played at the same venue earlier, A To Z Club garnered a hard fought 32-run victory over Lion Kings XI in a thrilling duel. A To Z Club, looking for yet another win that could strengthen their bid for dominating the group, opted to start
batting and scored 118 runs losing all wickets in 19 overs.

Lion Kings XI bowlers, Lakhi Lion (3-15) and Shishika Lion (2-14) had impressive bowling figures in their respective spells but efforts to frustrate A To Z Club’s quest for a triple digit total proved futile as the latter stepped up its batting approach at some point in the innings. In response, Lion Kings XI mounted a thrilling chase but could only manage 86 runs all out with four balls remaining.

Vijay Butt (3-7) led the A To Z Club’s bowling onslaught and was well assisted by Jagdish Hirani (2-9) and Chaminda Abeysekera (2-10) in foiling the Lion Kings XI’s chase. A group B match pitting Expatriates SC against Swamibapa SC at the TGT venue the same day saw the former grab a convincing eight-wicket win.

Swamibapa SC had the opportunity to start batting in the game and notched 150 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Anil Patel (75 runs) and Sameer Modhiwala (22 runs) were the notable batsmen in the squad’s innings while Mahmood Ahmed (3-23) and Deepak Chauhan (2-13) were the wicket takers for Expatriates SC.
