The Mbeya Branch Manager with the bank, Mr Geoffrey Kitundu said during the handover ceremony here that the money will help the fire victims to restore their businesses, “We were extremely touched with the sad news of the accident… as partners, and we felt obliged to help.”
The manager said the bank has special women empowerment programme focusing on helping women become active players in the country’s economic development.
Mbeya District Commissioner Evans Balama who officiated at the event thanked the bank for the timely support and called upon the beneficiaries to use the funds for business purposes, “I came to console the fire victims immediately I received news of the tragedy last December when I met officials from Exim bank and pledged to support.”
He advised women entrepreneurs to have a saving culture and secure loans from financial institutions for their businesses. “Do not be afraid to go to banks to ask for loans…the more you repay your loans, the easier it becomes to secure another loan,” he said.
