CAF picks refs for Simba, Shandi tie

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), Information Officer, Boniface Wambura named those picked as Nhleko Simanga Pritchard who is a central referee and he will be assisted by Mbingo Petros Mzikayifani and Sibandze Thulani. CAF also appointed Kayijuga Gaspard of Rwanda as the match commissioner.

The Mainland representatives, Simba, edged out Entente Sportive Setif of Algeria on the away goals rule on April 6, following a 3-3 aggregate result over the two legs, to set up the final qualifying round tie with the Al Ahli Shandi.   Milovan Cirkovic's men posted a 2-0 win at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, before a 3-1 defeat in Setif in the return leg encounter to progress on the away goals rule.

The Sudanese side, meanwhile, saw off Mozambique's Ferroviario de Maputo with a 3-0 aggregate win.  Pundits say Simba should be wary of the threat posed by Al Ahli Shandi as Sudanese teams have recently been on the rise at the continental stage. For the first time, Ahly Shandy and El Amal proved tough, casting bright future of Sudan football that has often relied on the two big clubs El Hilal and El Merreikh.

The remarkable feat by Shandy and El Amal have allowed the country to present four teams in continental competitions, two in the Champions League and two in the Confederation Cup.   Simba are attempting to repeat their 1993 feat when they reached the then CAF Cup final only to lose the return leg at home to Cote d'Ivoire's Stella Abidjan, having held the Ivorians to a goalless draw in the first leg in Abidjan.

Meanwhile, four companies have qualified to bid for a tender to print electronic tickets for the Mainland Premier League matches and other matches under the TFF.  Wambura said the companies sailed through after the Expression of Interest tender opened on Thursday at the federation’s headquarters under the supervision of Planning and Finance Committee, which also doubles as the TFF’s Tender Board.

He named the companies, which have made it through past the first phases as CRDB Bank PLC, SKIDATA People Access Inc., Prime Time Promotions and Punchlines (T) Limited. The companies are supposed to write the detailed tender document and submit it  to the TFF within three weeks. Wambura said the tender board will meet to pick one among the four companies which will do the job
