Bombardier showcases new aircraft in Dar

At a ceremony at Julius Nyerere International Airport, the company’s senior officials demonstrated features of the new series to aviation stakeholders including representatives from Air Tanzania, Tanzanair and Precision Air. Bombardier’s Airline Commercial Manager, Mr Charles Carriere said they were visiting African continent as part of the world tour to showcase the most recent and state-of-the-art aircraft.

Commenting on the aircraft, Director of Tanzanair, Mr Abdukadir Mohamed said it was a good product but there are several challenges that could hamper it to penetrate the local market. He gave an example of most of the Tanzanian airports which lack modern facilities to enable the plane to land at night.

“It is likely that we will not make profit with this type of aircraft because we will have to fly a fewer hours. There is also the question of maintenance which will be done abroad for lack of technicians and facilities,” he noted. However, the company’s Sales Director Sameer Adam allayed the fears, saying that a plan to train pilots and technicians for months after sales is in place.

“We will provide full comprehensive service after sales. Our customers could still contact us for any assistance after sales,” said Adam. The company said hundreds of its planes have bee sold all over the world. Carriere said that before flying to Dar es Salaam, the tour also covered Senegal, Ghana, Mozambique and Botswana.
They will proceed to Kenya and Rwanda.
