It’s Dar Hockey showdown at JMK Park

FIFTEEN teams will be on ground today in a renewed chase for a 5-a-side NaneNane hockey tournament at the Jakaya M Kikwete Youth Park in Dar es Salaam.

The 3-day hockey showdown is scheduled to wind up at the same venue on August 8th this year.
NaneNane is national Farmers Day and most often various sports are staged on the day.

Tanzania Hockey Association’s Secretary General, Kaushik Dosh told the ‘Daily News on Saturday’ yesterday that preparation for the three-day event has been finalised and everything is in place.
“This tournament has been sponsored by Augusta Energy, Coverall Insurance and Jadens, we thank all of them for making this tournament happen,” he said.

Adding Doshi said the tournament has been organised by the Black Mambaz Hockey club of Dar es Salaam in collaboration with Tanzania Hockey Association (THA).

The THA secretary general said the prestigious event is  exclusive for men teams from Dar es Salaam.

He said the teams will play in a 5-a-side category and have been pooled into three groups; A, B and C.
Doshi named the teams and their groups as Black Mamba Wazee, Tanzania Peoples’ Defence Forces (TPDF) B, Juhudi A, JMK Park A and Buza Secondary, the teams form group A.
He named group B’s teams as Black Mamba Vijana, TPDF A, Juhudi B, Majaniya Chai and Benjamin Mkapa Secondary School.
The group C consists of Black Mamba Fishrice, Black Mamba Mandonga, Magereza, JMK Park B and Juhudi C.
According to the tournament’s fixture,there will be 30 group matches out of which 15 matches will be played today.
On Sunday, eight teams will advanced to Monday’s quarters, semis and then the final.
The opening match will see Juhudi A taking on hosts JMK Park B from 10:00 to 10:25hrs in the group A battle, before group B open their campaign with Benjamin Mkapa Secondary versus Majaniya Chai from 10:25 to 10:45 while the group C’s opening match will pit Juhudi C against JMK Park A from 10:50 -11:15.
Doshi added the top two teams from in each group will sail through to the quarterfinals.
The quarters will see 1st Group A winner face 2nd winner of Group B, and the 2nd –placed Group A  team will face the winner of Group B.
The winner of   Group C will play Best Looser of 1 and the Best looser 2 will face the runner of Group C.
