PURA lauds exploration firm for engaging varsity students

The Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) has commended Shell Exploration and Production Tanzania Ltd (SEPT) for organizing the natural gas series event aimed at sharing gas value chain insights with university students.

The event was held on 18th June, 2022 at UDSM premises featuring over 160 students studying petroleum-related courses from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) - School of Mines and Geosciences.

Airing opening remarks, SEPT's Commercial Manager, Mr Kenneth Mutaonga stated that the gas series event organized by the company is vital for sharing industry experience and insights with university students.

"We did virtual events in the past but what makes this year's event special is the fact that today we have met physically," said Mr. Kenneth.

At that event, SEPT delivered presentations on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) - Global Outlook, Shell's Presence in Tanzania, and Skills Development and Capacity Building. The company touched on the anticipated Tanzania LNG Project and the anticipated benefits.

The presentations were made by Mr. Kenneth, Ms. Msomisi Mbenna (Corporate Relations Advisor), Mr. Beatus Rwechungura (Lead Economist) and Ms. Egejn Kiwia (Commercial Analyst) On his part, a representative from PURA, Mr. Ebeneza Mollel applauded Shell for sharing invaluable insights with the students and asked the company to consider engaging students studying petroleum-related courses in other universities apart from UDSM.

"Having a platform like this which brings together students and people with industry experience is crucial since the students are getting it straight from the horse's mouth.

"We sincerely commend Shell for this and we hope to see more of these events" concluded Mr. Ebeneza.

Shell Tanzania is the operator of the offshore blocks 1 and 4.

It's also one of the companies involved in the development of the anticipated Tanzania LNG project.
