Miss Tanzania smells fortune in Miss World

THE newly crowned miss Tanzania Halima Kopwe has been encouraged to represent well the country in both domestic and international events by putting first her country’s interests.

Deputy Minister in the Ministry for Culture, Arts and Sports Pauline Gekul made the call yesterday in Dodoma when Kopwe paid her a courtesy visit at parliament few days after winning the crown.

"You are carrying responsibilities to advertise our country. You have our culture plus our precious Kiswahili language as such, we believe that you will amicably fly well national colours wherever you go by being a responsible ambassador of Tanzania," she said.

The Deputy Minister also insisted her to maintain discipline in all her activities while urging miss Tanzania committee to uphold her well so that the beauty pageant sector should not lose its reputation.

On her part, Kopwe thanked government for being on forefront in facilitating culture and arts sectors while pledging to be a good envoy for the country throughout her tenure.

However, after winning the honour during a colourful event held at Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam recently, Kopwe said she will invest the 10m/- cash prize she won to scale up her preparations to shine in the forthcoming Miss World contest saying she wants to put the country on the world map.

For winning the crown, she was awarded a  Mercedes Benz C class 200 worth 40m/-.

Speaking after being handled the keys to her car, Kopwe reiterated that she is not going to relax but rather invest the cash prize in her preparations to outshine in the next edition of Miss World.

"Of course I am excited to be the overall winner but being a representative of Tanzania in the Miss World pageant, I will begin preparations right away in order to put the country on the world stage in the beauty pageant business.
