St Gasper’s Charity Marathon gathers storm

THE St Gaspar del Buffalo Parish Pilgrimage Church is inviting people to participate in the charity marathon aimed at raising funds for construction of the church’s centre in the city.

The call was issued by the St Gaspar del Bufalo Church over the weekend and named the Temeke District Commissioner Jokate Mwegelo as the event’s official guest.

According to the church’s statement, the charity marathon will be flagged off on June 4th this year at St Mary’s Church.

“The Charity Marathon is aimed at raising funds for the construction of a centre where people from all over the world will use during a pilgrimage to worship the precious blood of Jesus.”

Adding, the statement said the marathon is open for everyone wishing to contribute in building the holy centre.

[Among the events to be staged on the day in- clude the 5km race startng from St Gasper Church and climax at Beachcomber area.

Its second phase will involve all participants of the 5km and 10km races which will also start at the St Gasper Church towards the Beachcomber and later return to the church.

The participation fee for the runners is 30,000/- for each participant.

In addition to the usual festivities marking the feast day of the founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, this year on October 24, the St Gaspar Church was consecrated by Cardinal Polycarp Pengo, the retired Archbishop of Dar es Salaam.

St Gaspar’s Parish was found in 2007 and serves as a pilgrimage centre in the Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam.
