Tanzanians, Ugandans on course for Lugalo Ladies Open

WITH over 100 golfers from Uganda and Tanzania engaged in the race, the two-day Lugalo Ladies Golf Open Championship tees off at the club’s par 72-course today.

The club’s Ladies Section captain, Hawa Wanyeche told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam on Friday that everything is in place and the course is immaculate for the massive tee off as planned.

Wanyeche said there is a bumper entry this time around as there are more than 100 golfers coming from Uganda and Tanzania.

She said it is a 36-hole competition that has a regional look since it has drawn together golfers from Tanzania and the rest of East Africa.

“The course is in a good condition and ready for the showdown. We thank all golfers for the good response, it is a step forward as for the first time we have entries from Uganda,” she added.

Wanyeche believes the tournament will be highly competitive but very entertaining to every participant though there are golfers who claim they are sure of taking the coveted trophy.

“We are prepared for any challenge that may pose threat to the tournament’s success. Everything is proper and we expect the club’s Chairman to invite the Minister for Defence and National Service, Stergomena Tax to grace to the event,” Wanyeche said.

The Ladies captain thanked the event’s sponsors; Precision Air, Akiba Commercial Bank, Qatar Air, Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited Group (METL), Pepsi, Serengeti, Lake Oil, Serena Hotel and Sana Industries for backing the event.

The event will also serve as good trials for the Tanzanian envoys in the 2022 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) to be held at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) in September this year.

The event’s defending champion Angel Eaton who won the last year’s event will will be on course to defend her title.

Impressively,  Eaton won the title after posting 152 total gross in the 36-hole tournament.

Lugalo chairman Michael Luwongo was quoted as saying that the event also aims to support President Samia Suluhu’s efforts to promote sports and put country into spotlight through Royal Tour film.

He urged the ladies to come forward in large numbers to support the event which also aims to celebrate and honouring Mothers which was celebrated globally on May 8th this year.
