Members of Parliament (MPs) have unanimously endorsed the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology’s 282.056bn/- budget for the next 2022/23 Financial Year.
Tabling his spending plan in the Parliament on Friday morning, Minister Nape Nnauye told lawmakers that his Ministry was determined to help the nation to digitalize its economy and improve freedom by working on policies, laws, and regulations
Disaggregating the budget, Mr Nape said out of the requested amount, 26. 28bn/- will be used for recurrent expenditure while 9.03bn/- is for other expenses.
He added that a total of 255.78bn/- will be used to execute various development projects.
Earlier, the Minister said the number of internet service users in Tanzania has increased to 29.9 million, up from 29.1 million customers recorded in April 2021.
He said the Government, through Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority #TCRA, was ready to auction frequencies to operators who will be able to provide 5G spectrums.
Mr Nape assured MPs that the process of issuing 5G spectrum to operators will be transparent and competitive.
