ABOUT sixteen shops at the Kakubilo market in Geita District have been burnt to ashes, as sources of the incident remains another puzzle for the state and local authorities.

Geita District Commissioner Wilson Shimo announced on Friday the stores are among the 250 shops owned by the ruling Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM).

The commissioner told reporters the police have launched an investigation into the matter that is gaining momentum across the country. At least, another market in Dar es Salaam was burnt to ashes in what investigation traced the cause to drug pushers.

Geita District Fire and Rescue Commissioner Stanley Luhwago said the unit arrived at the scene immediately after receiving the call and had been collaborating with the citizens to fight the fire.

He observed, however, the need to distinguish for instance the food cooking area from other goods and services.

The Council Chairperson, Charles Kazungu proposed the 2022 budget planned for corporate social responsibility will be allocated for the procurement of fire trucks in the district.
