JICA boosts TRA's boarder revenue collections initiative 

THE Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has handed over boarder surveillance and control equipment to support Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA)’s initiative in revenue collections in the country.

Equipment that have been donated by the agency, according to TRA Commissioner General, Alphayo Kidata, were x-ray baggage scanner, Patrol Boat, Portable Raman Spectrometers, Patrol Cars and Field Test Kits to the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).

Mr Kidata said  that the equipment will be maintained as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Tanzania. 

The Commission said Tanzania's government appreciates the technical support from the Japan through JICA which compliments TRA's effort to improving trade and control management. 

“I have  been informed  that since November, 2019 the government of Japan  through JICA agreed to implement project known as the capacity Development on Trade Facilitation and Boarder Control in East Africa for a total amount of JPY 351 million (USD 3.2 million)," he said and added that TRA received the fund since it was among beneficiaries.

“I have further been informed that the project is a result of the signed Nairobi  Declaration  following the TOKYO International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD VI) which was held in August, 2016 Nairobi-Kenya of which the government  of Japan Committed itself to support Africa development  including trade facilitation and border control management.

He said the project was expected to end in June 2021 but has been extended to March, 2022.

Mr Kidata added that the main objective of the project was to enhance capacity on trade facilitation and border control management to regional revenue authorities.

According to him,  the surveillance kits and equipment for enhancement of boarder control management  procured by JICA in September 2020-April 2021 have been received , allocated , installed at various boarder stations.
