Simba, Mbeya City command 6th round duels

SIMBA and Mbeya City have emerged big winners in the sixth round of the NBC Premier League after hammering Ruvu Shooting and Mtibwa Sugar by a margin of 3-1 apiece.

The defending champions, Simba pulverised Ruvu Shooting at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza where they displayed aggressive football to silence their opponents and stay glued to the second spot with 14 points.

It was a great performance by the Msimbazi Street Reds who are already on the battlefield preparing for their crucial first leg CAF Confederation Cup match against Red Arrows of Zambia on Sunday at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Again, it was the first match for the Reds this season to register a big scoreline as in their previous three victories; they only produced hard-fought 1-0 wins.

Similarly, Mbeya City were on the siege at their Sokoine Stadium downsizing Mtibwa Sugar with 3-1 win in one of the tense matches of the league’s sixth round.

It was all smiles for the team's coach Mathias Lulle who is enjoying his stay at the club and his DNA seems to be working better as they are able to win matches hence sitting fourth on the ladder with 10 points.

Likewise, Tanzania Prisons, KMC and Geita Gold all recorded their first wins of the marathon after defeating Mbeya Kwanza, Azam and Kagera Sugar with a 2-1 goal margin.

They trio have since tasted the palatable portion of the league hence they will be curious to replicate the same feat in the fixtures coming in the seventh round of the season.

As such; they brushed aside the five-game win-less syndrome which was affecting them a lot and until this moment, Mtibwa Sugar are the only side yet to pocket first three points.

Coastal Union produced a thin 1-0 triumph against Polisi Tanzania at Ushirika Stadium to also crucify the evil spirit which guided them to five matches without a win thereby giving their American coach Melis Medo reasons to celebrate.

However, only two venues Ilulu Stadium in Lindi and Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma enabled the teams to share spoils at the end of the playing period.

At Ilulu venue, hosts Namungo held league leaders Young Africans to a 1-1 draw with the guest team crawling from behind to flatten the scoreboard via a controversial spot-kick.

Also, in the only encounter of the finished round played under floodlights at Jamhuri Stadium, Dodoma Jiji managed to secure one point against the self-proclaimed 'Border Soldiers' team Biashara United.
