The going gets tough, will our trio get going?

IT is a judgement weekend for the country’s envoys in CAF inter-club events as they play their second leg matches whose results will decide their fate in the continental level tournaments. Both Azam and Biashara United who are parading in CAF Confederation Cup will have away tough businesses, knowing in advance that playing far from home is always a big advantage for them as they play without pressure at all.

However, the big question mark among many pundits in the country has been placed on Azam versus Pyramids match scheduled in Egypt tomorrow as until now, the aggregate scoreline remains goalless hence any team has equal chances to sail through.

The Chamazi giants ran out of solutions to finish the match at their backyard when the two sides met at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam as neither of them produced tangible outcome to decide the match.

The outcome was much better for the visitors (Pyramids) ahead of tomorrow’s meeting but that is not a guarantee for them to emerge winners since football has transformed nowadays whereby the syndrome that teams do well when playing at their home turf is no longer practicable.

For instance, during the first leg battles, many teams did well in their away matches beating the host sides as such, the same formula should linger among Azam players that they can too register success against the Egyptians mainly due to the fact that the away goal rule will be in favour of them.

But, the case is slightly different with the other national flag carriers in confederation cup Biashara United who have a two goal advantage while heading to face Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya tomorrow.

Surely, the Mara based outfits have stepped one leg into the group stage of the competition but they need to be cautious since football is a crazy sport as anything can surface within the 90 minutes of play.

It was good for them to net twice at home such that they just need to thrive to get an away goal while locking their doors not to let the Libyans open it until the final whistle is blown.

From the way Al Ahly Tripoli played in the first leg, they are not a poor side and are capable to turn things around only if Biashara United will let them dominate the game. What the self proclaimed ‘Border Soldiers’ should do is to press the hosts a lot and in such doing, the latter will be forced to make mistakes which can be used for the former’s advantage but if United choose to ‘park the bus’, they will suffer a lot.

The good thing about Biashara United is that they have players who are able to change the playing pattern as the game unfolds to suit the rhythm of the match a quality which is applausible in football circles. On the other hand, for Simba who are the only remnants in CAF Champions League, they seem to have already claimed a ticket to cruise into the group stage of the campaign for the second time in a row.

Going into the reverse leg duel against Jwaneng Galaxy at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday, the Reds have a two away sourced goals which put them in a good path to continue with the champions league trip.

Yes, for a long time, when playing at the giant 60,000 capacity stadium in the country in the champions league, Simba have always used the venue well by ensuring that they get the deserved triumph to step into the next stage.

With 15,000 home fans cleared by CAF to descend at the stadium to watch the game live, Simba will get massive boost to blow out the Botswana even though, practically, the match is yet from over.

As such, we wish all flag bearers to do well in their respective showdowns and earn a slot into the group stage where they will trade with much ease unlike during this knockout phase.

However, Tanzanians continue to walk heads up as a result of remarkable performances stamped by their representatives in major football events both at club and national levels something which is worth to be proud of.

Just few weeks ago, national football teams Taifa Stars and Twiga Stars put wide smiles on many football fraternity following their sweet performances in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers as well as the elapsed 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa.

Taifa Stars won 1-0 in their crucial away match versus Benin to stay alive in the marathon for the world cup qualifiers whose finals will be staged in Qatar next year as such, hopes to make it there are still intact.

To the women’s side, they simply lifted the COSAFA trophy after displaying a stateof-the-art action in all their five fixtures they were exposed to and this earned them big reputation within and outside the country.

All these are fruits which deserve to be enjoyed by all Tanzanians who have football passion, bearing in mind that the success of national teams sells the country globally as many people become aware of it.
