A 51-year old man identified as Emmanuel Mdende, a resident of Mugajwale village, in Bukoba Rural district is helping police in investigations for allegedly killing his wife.
Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC), Assistant Commissioner Awadhi Haji, explained that the incident occurred on October 11, this year at around 2.45 p.m.
"On that particular date the unsuspecting Odilia Kilinga (47), was at home preparing lunch when she was assaulted by the suspect (Mdende), using a machete accusing her to be in love with another man.
She sustained severe head injuries and bleeding and died as efforts were being made to rush her to the nearby Izimbya hospital for treatment. The suspect has already been arrested and he will be arraigned in court when investigations are completed," he said.
According to ACP Haji, the incident comes barely four days after another man, identified as Kibwana Mgwasha (41), a resident of Rugu village, in Karagwe district allegedly fatally stabbed his wife and dumped her body in a pit latrine.
He explained that on October 1, this year the late Anicia Alfred (32), went missing while the suspect (Mgwasha), claimed that she had left for her parent’s home.
However, four days later her decaying body was found dumped in a pit latrine. Investigations were in progress and the suspect would be arraigned when they are completed, he said.
ACP Haji appealed to residents in the region to avoid taking the law in their own hands and instead should report the suspects to nearest police stations for necessary action.
