Unique Isles Marathon gathers storm

ZANZIBAR President Hussein Ali Mwinyi will grace the Zanzibar Blue Economic Half Marathon 2021 to be held on December 6th in Unguja.

The 21km half marathon is set to celebrate the 365 days of President Mwinyi since he was inaugurated to power in November last year.

The Chairman of the Zanzibar Blue Economic Half Marathon 2021 Organising Committee, Abdallah Idrissa Majura, revealed this to the press yesterday in Unguja and insisted that the marathon will enlighten most citizens to understand the concept of the Blue Economy.

He added that doing that event will be an essential part of supporting President Mwinyi to uplift the Zanzibar sports industry, promote the marathon in the isles and encourage Zanzibaris to exercise and build their health.

The marathon will involve runners from different groups, including public servants, private sectors, business people, entrepreneurs, security organs and universities.

The Police Brass Band will grace the event as they will parade along with the runners. According to the organizers, NMB has sponsored the half marathon whose winners for men and women will pocket 1,200,000/-, the runners up 800,000/- while the third finishers will pocket 500,000/-.

In the ten-kilometer race sponsored by the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), the first winner will get 800,000/-, the runner up 500,000/- and the third 300,000/-. There will be a 200m race for both men and women.

All participants, regardless of the first or last winner, will each receive 50,000/-. Other than the NMB Bank and TPA, Bumaco Insurance Company, Tanzania Postal Corporation, Azam TV, who will broadcast all the promotions for the whole period and broadcast the entire event, are among the co-sponsors.

As a member of the organizing committee, the chairman of the Zanzibar Athletics Association noted that he had invited all the athletes from Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.

He has also invited runners from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia and elsewhere but urged them to follow procedures and register early before the marathon date.
