New dawn as Hichilema sworn in as Zambia's seventh President

The newly sworn in President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema has said that his enthronement to power proved to the world that the country has democratic standards of leadership.

Speaking immediately after the sworn in as the Head of State at swearing-in ceremony held at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka Tuesday, the President said the country is about to take a new turn in the development of its people. 

“We have shown the whole world that there is democracy in our country and we reaffirm that power belongs to the people of Zambia. The people decided it was time for a change and today we can boldly say change is here,” President Hichilema said.

He conveyed his gratitude to voters adding that their trust in him will not be let down. 

“I am humbled and filled with gratitude for your trust in a simple village boy whom you have made the 7th President of the Republic of Zambia. Thank you so much,” said the President at a full-packed stadium.

“This victory is not mine, but for all the Citizens of Zambia especially youth, the youth of Zambia who turned out to vote in great numbers with great energy and made this day possible,” he added.  

However, he promised the citizens that his government will maintain its membership in regional, continental and international policy
