THE Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) Iringa Diocese has received a donation of 160 iron sheets from ALAF Limited for completion of a church building at Mlandege Parish in Iringa Municipality.
Former President Jakaya Kikwete handed over the iron sheets to the diocese worth 20m/-, calling upon leaders to make sure they use them for the intended purpose.
“If you are being given a hand of help, you should put efforts to ensure that you attain your target instead of waiting for other well wishers to keep helping you, because they might not support you on the required time,” Kikwete said at ALAF Limited headquarters in Dar es Salaam on Friday.
The former president expressed gratitude to ALAF Limited for granting the request he presented to the company on behalf of the Iringa Diocese which expressed their request to him last year when he attended a synod conference in Iringa.
The Archbishop of the ELCT Diocese of Iringa, Blaston Gavile thanked the retired President and ALAF Limited for the support, saying they have put an indelible mark for such contribution, because the building will always remind them of such contribution.
“We started building the Mlandege Church building in 2015, with focus of replacing the existing one which has become small in size to accommodate the ever growing congregation,” he said.
He said that the new church is expected to house up to 1,000 seated members and the budget goes to nearly 500m/-.
ALAF’s Relationship Manager, Hawa Bayumi said the company has provided 160 galvanized iron sheets as part of giving back to the society in honoring the retired president’s request.
