THE Diplomatic Golf tournament organising committee has postponed the season opening Diplomatic Fiddle event that was scheduled to tee off in Arusha this weekend.
The one day tournament that was designed to open the season three of the prestigious Diplomatic Golf Tournament 2021 was due to tee off at Kili Golf Club in USA River, Arusha on Saturday.
Coordinator of the event Reinfrida Rwezaura one of the event organisers, has told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam yesterday that preparations for the same were on top gear but they have been forced to postpone it until further notice.
“I want to inform all golfers that we’ve postponed the 18 holes battle, we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” he said.
She added that the plan was to organise the fiddle that Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Damas Ndumbaro, who is also a good fan of golf was expected to take part.
However, she noted that due to the Minister’s busy schedule, it would be impossible for him to be there hence they decided to postpone the event. She said the event will be held on a later date with the aim of creating awareness on Diplomatic competition to be held later this year. Rwezaura insisted that the committee has been working hard to ensure they stage a wonderful event.
This will be the third year since the introduction of the event. She said that the fiddle will be open for diplomats, Chief Executives Officers (CEOs) as well as men and ladies categories.
This year’s event will follow from the first edition that was held at Sea Cliff Resort & Spa Golf Club of Zanzibar in 2019 before last year’s Kili Golf edition.
Rwezaura also invited companies and individuals to come forward and sponsor both events. Minister Ndumbaro initiated the event three years ago, when he was the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. Among others, the annual Diplomatic golf event has been designed to boost the country’s tourism sector.
Golf, like many other sports, has big role to play towards tourism promotion.
