Abbasi calls for efficiency

PERMANENT Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Arts, Culture and Sports Dr Hassan Abbasi has called for all institutions under the docket to embark on transformations and adhere to principles of transparency and good governance.

He also called for management and staff of all the institutions under the ministry to be creative in ensuring the good progress of the organisation for the greater interest of both sides.

Dr Abbasi made the remarks yesterday, when launching the Workers Council of the Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN), the publishers of Daily News, Sunday News, HabariLeo, HabariLeo Jumapili, Spoti Leo and Daily News digital.

He urged all members to utilise their membership to the council to transform TSN by coming up with new ideas and suggestions that would maintain the company’s glory and take it to the next level, going forward.

“The council should also promote and maintain good labor relations between management and workers unions and workers in general,” Dr Abbasi said.

Adding, “One of the responsibilities of the council is to review and approve the organisation’s budget. Members should understand the philosophy and strategies of the company. Workers council is a right platform that allows employees to address challenges at a workplace”.

The PS also suggested for the council to observe rules and regulations through which, the council was established.

He assured of the ministry’s full support to TSN, to ensure the company achieves the set goals for the interest of the country and all the staff.

“As the members of the council, you have to think big, set huge targets on behalf of all other staff,” he said, adding that the council should also play a role of advising the company’s board of directors on changes that are to be made, in a bid to transform the institution,” he said.

For her part, TSN Acting Managing Editor, Tuma Abdallah said she was confident that the company’s workers council would benefit the institution.

“We are confident that the formation of the TSN workers council will go a long way in consolidating dialogue and facilitating the transformation that we are looking for,” she noted.

She also assured that the company would work on all the guidelines from the PS from the ministry for the brighter future of the company.
