RESIDENTS of Dar es Salaam and nearby areas have been encouraged to register for the upcoming Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI) half marathon, set for June 27th in Dar es Salaam.
Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Tulia Ackson is expected to grace the event, leading others who will descend to take part in the marathon, whose proceeds will go a long way to finance operation costs of 40 children with Scoliosis.
According to the statement released by the hospital's Communication Department and signed by Patrick Mvugi, athletes will first congregate at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) grounds before commencement of the marathon from 6:00am.
"We want many people to participate in this marathon, so that the proceeds which will be collected should be enough to be channelled to assist children suffering from Scoliosis, who needs immediate operation. "Let me thank those who have already registered plus our sponsors for the good gesture they have shown but we still want to attract many people in order to fulfil our objective," Mvugi said.
The statement further indicated that a registration fee for individual runners is 35,000/- calling on many people to embrace this opportunity, which is intended to support needy children.
