Kenyan Mathuki confirmed as new EAC Secretary General

The 21st East Africa Summit has endorsed Dr Peter Mathuki from the Republic of Kenya as the new Secretary General of the Community.

He has been awarded a five-year non-renewable deal.

Dr Mathuki was announced as the new community’s Secretary General on Saturday (February 27, 2021) by the presiding EAC Chairman, President Paul Kagame.

His tenure as the new Secretary General takes effect on the 25th of April, 2021.

Dr Mathuki who is an expert in regional integration, having served in several regional organizations is currently working as the Chief Executive Officer of the East African Business Council (EABC), pushing the Private Sector agenda in the EAC Region.
