GEITA Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has emerged winner in three key categories and overall best performer in 2019/2020 financial year mining sector awards presented by the government during the annual Tanzania Mineral and Mining Investment Conference in Dar es Salaam.

At event graced by Vice-President Samia Hassan Suluhu, GGML was recognised for its outstanding contribution in the mining industry especially in revenue remittance to the government, performance in environmental and safety issues as well as executing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects.

Speaking shortly after receiving the awards on the sidelines of the conference, GGML’s Vice President (Sustainability), Simon Shayo expressed appreciation for the government in recognizing their work and pledged to continue working with all stakeholders in the mining industry and ensure the State’s vision and gross domestic product (GDP) are realised.

“Emerging winners in tax, environment and safety categories as well as in our sustainable community investment is a testimony to our vision to become the leading global mining company.

“This recognition also ascertains our position as a key development partner with the government as aligned in one of our core values – to ensure that the communities surrounding the mine are better off as AngloGold Ashanti wants it.

“Over the past 21 years, GGML has been an active participant in the initiatives that the government undertakes improving the mining industry’s potential, including engagement and consultative processes that are regularly championed by the Ministry of Minerals.

“GGML will continue to work with the government and other stakeholders to attain and hopefully surpass the target in the mining sector to contribute 10 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025,” said Mr Shayo.

This year, GGML was also one of the main sponsors of the two-day conference which ended on 23 February 2021 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in the city.
