THE ruling party CCM councilors has been elected Mr Sima Costantine as the new mayor of Mwanza city council.
Mr Sima, who is also Mhandu Ward Councilor in Nyamagana District, garnered 17 votes out of 26 casted votes.
He was followed by the Nyamagana Ward Councilor, Mr Bhiku Kotecha who got 7 votes. The Nyamagana District CCM Chairperson, Mr Zebedayo Athman announced Mr Costantine as the new City Mayor.
“The voting exercise involved 26 members. The councilors also elected the Deputy Mayor,” he said.
He said the first in the three rounds, Isamilo Councilor, Mr Charles Nyamasiriri and Pamba Ward Councilor, Mr Rodrick Ngoye scored similar votes.
The move called for the fourth round on which Mr Ngoye emerged the winner with 14 votes against his competitor, who scored 12 votes.
He explained further that the voting process involved 18 elected Ward Councilors, six (Councilors) from special seats and two Members of Parliament, who made a total of 26 voters.
The Chairperson affirmed that the rest of the contestants conceded defeat and promised to cooperate with the new elected Mayor.
“The process followed all required procedures and all contestants have agreed and pledged to support the new Mayor,” he noted.
The newly elected Mayor promised to effectively supervise all on-going development projects in the city and establish new ones for the betterment of all Tanzanians and the nation at large.
The Deputy Mayor vowed to work hard towards solving the existing challenges in the area while fully supporting the mayor in implementing various projects.
